Downloading…Downloading….Downloading….. This is what we like to do and we never get tired of downloading stuffs over the internet, that is the case with me. Internet is so great and there are tons of stuffs we download over the internet from songs and movies to games and applications.
Downloading is fun only when the Internet speeds are good enough, otherwise its a game of waiting…waiting and more waiting. And by the way this waiting game sucks. But there are certain things that we can do in order to make the downloads a bit faster and more fun.
I always make sure to properly manage my files ad sort everything based on their type. This will help us easily find files that we need. When we are downloading stuffs from the web using the web browsers, everything will be saved to Downloads folder by default and it gets filled will all kinds of files and types.
These problems can be taken care of we are using a Download Manager Software to manage all our Downloads. I personally use Download Managers all the time. They are just great piece of software that helps improve the download speeds and also manage the downloaded files easily.
We will have more control and functionalities over downloads when compared to what a web browser would have. There are many Download Manager software available and all have different features and uses. Today we will be taking about the most widely used Download Manager software and one other Download manager which is less popular, but is just great that it gives strong competition to the first one.
Increase Download Speeds using DM:
Download Managers are a piece if software that manages the downloads that we will be doing from the computer. When we download a file over the internet, the browser takes care of the downloads. When you have a download manager software installed, the download will be taken by the Software.
If you are wondering how these software can increase download speeds comparing to browsers….These software are built only for managing downloads and they are pretty good at these things. The tweak all the settings and configure the downloads so well, there will be improved speeds. The download will be split into parts and each part will be downloaded separately from the server and later joined together. This greatly improves the downloading speeds and gives you the maximum speed the internet connection provides.
Also its not just the speeds, most browsers don’t support to pause the download and then continue after a while. But using these download manager software, we can easily pause supported downloads and then resume it whenever we need. The file will be there, it will not be removed. This is one of main feature i find greatly useful.
#1. Internet Download Manager (Paid)
Internet Download Manager, popularly known in short as IDM is a tool to increase download speeds by up to 5 times, resume and schedule downloads. Comprehensive error recovery and resume capability will restart broken or interrupted downloads due to lost connections, network problems, computer shutdowns, or unexpected power outages.
Simple graphic user interface makes IDM user friendly and easy to use.Internet Download Manager has a smart download logic accelerator that features intelligent dynamic file segmentation and safe multi-part downloading technology to accelerate your downloads.
Unlike other download managers and accelerators Internet Download Manager segments downloaded files dynamically during download process and reuses available connections without additional connect and login stages to achieve best acceleration performance.
IDM will automatically categorize the downloads based on the file type. This is a very hand function as all the files will be sorted out and we can easily search files. We can customize the category settings from the preferences. IDM fully supports proxies and also site authentication.
IDM will provide you with the most download speeds out of the box, but if you really want to squeeze even the last bit of the speed, there is a FREE tool that is available which will automatically apply the Best setting for IDM. You can Download The IDM Optimizer Tool and use it.
#2. EagleGet (Free)
EagleGet is a free alternative to Internet Download Manager. Its 100% free to use. The software is much simpler compared to IDM and is easy to use and looks better too. I personally use EagleGet on my PC and Personal Laptops as well. It supports almost all the modern browsers without any issues.
The whole software is just under 10mb and is very easy to set it up and get it running. Just Download and install the software and it will automatically setup browser integrations (permission requested). That’s it! you are good to go. Just click the link you want to download and baam….the download will be added in Eagleget.
There is a small widget that shows us the progress of the downloads. I think it kinds handy to watch the status.
By default all the downloads that are done via Eagleget will be inside “Documents>EGDownloads” , we can change it in the settings and we can also categorize the downloads based on the type. We can add file extensions and add it to a particular category. This will make sure all the files are properly sorted out and will be easily to find.
Eagleget has a Video Sniffer option which we can use to download any kind of video on the webpage we are viewing. we can then download it if we want. There are options to configure proxies as seen in IDM. We can change which files to be downloaded automatically in Eagleget and which not to. Also we can assign keys to disable monitoring downloads.
Download Manager Softwares can greatly help you manage downloads that you do on your computer. It will improve the download speeds by using multi-threaded technology. Downloading files using these software is great and you can easily pause and resume downloads whenever we want without any limits( if server supports).
I cannot really find a reason Why one shouldn’t use a Download Manager?. If you really don’t want to put your money on Download Managers, Go for EagleGet which is absolutely free to use and has almost all the features IDM has. If you are willing to pay a li’l bit money on a great software, go for Internet Download Manager with great features and support.
